Japanese for the Japanesed Chalanged- Lesson 1

Greetings

1.Oha yo (Good morning!-casual)
Polite Form- "Oha yo gozaimasu"

2.Kon nichiwa (Hello!)
This one is only used casually, NOT over the telephone!

3.Kon banwa (Good evening)

4.Sayou nara (Good-bye)
For the more casual form, used mostly by young people- "Ja ne" not "Jane" (laugh), or "Bai Bai" (Bye Bye)

Greetings in the Family

5.Itte rasshai
There is no translation for this. The Japanese say this to family members as they leave the house, kind of like, to express their hopes they'll come back safely.

6.Itte kimasu (I'll be back.)
Reply- "Itte rasshai", then they say, "Itte kimasu"

7.Tadaima (I'm home)

8.Oka-eri (Welcome home)
Polite form= "Oka-eri-nasai"

Thank you/Appreciation


9.Ari-gatou (Thank you)
Polite form= "Doumo-ari-gatou" or "Dou-mo-ari-gatou-gozaimasu" (more polite)

10.Dou-itashi-mashite (You're welcome.)

Before and After Meal


11.Ita-daki-masu (they say this before their meals)

12.Gochisou-sama-deshita (after meal)

These two are like, giving apreciation for your meal and thanking the one who cooked and also grace.
